Salford Red Devils vs Leigh Centurions Preview

The Lowdown

SALFORD RED DEVILS

  • Salford have enjoyed one of their best starts to a Super League season for years and the emphatic 54-18 win at Hull FC last week showed just how far they have come this season under Ian Watson.
  • Following that tremendous win, Watson has named an unchanged squad as he has no new injury concerns from that match so it is the same 19 once again.
  • Ticket sales for this match are going extremely well, so they will be buoyed by the fact that the fans are getting behind them in numbers right now during this superb run of form in which they have won their last four matches.

Head Coach: Ian Watson

Squad: Justin Carney, Todd Carney, Michael Dobson, Mark Flanagan, Greg Johnson, Josh Jones, Craig Kopczak, George Griffin, Rob Lui, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Lee Mossop, Gareth O'Brien, Olsi Krasniqi, Junior Sa'u, Lama Tasi, Logan Tomkins, Adam Walne, Kris Welham, Josh Wood

Unavailable: Weller Huaraki (Foot), Jordan Walne, Niall Evalds, Ryan Lannon, Jake Bibby, Kriss Brining

LEIGH CENTURIONS

  • Leigh's form has dipped in recent weeks and predominantly the defensive side of their game, as they have conceded 28, 37 and 37 points in their last three matches and they have lost them all.
  • Jamie Acton returns following a suspension but they lost Gareth Hock who has to serve a one-game ban after admitting to using foul and abusive language at an official.
  • Coach Neil Jukes has been unhappy with the discipline shown by his team in recent weeks so he has demanded an improvement there as he makes a couple of further changes in his squad to freshen the side up.

Head Coach: Neil Jukes

Squad: Jamie Acton, Mitch Brown, Lachlan Burr, Ben Crooks, Matty Dawson, James Green, Ryan Hampshire, Harrison Hansen, Micky Higham, Adam Higson, Sam Hopkins, Gregg McNally, Eloi Pelissier, Ben Reynolds, Martyn Ridyard, Glenn Stewart, Danny Tickle, Atelea Vea, Dayne Weston

Unavailable: Gareth Hock (Suspended), James Clare (Knee), Tom Armstrong, Cory Paterson, Josh Drinkwater, Willie Tonga, Liam Hood, Curtis Naughton, Antoni Maria

Analysis - what to expect
Salford and Leigh are going in different directions at the moment, with Salford sitting in the lofty position of second in the Super League while Leigh slip down the table and continue to struggle. The Red Devils have been in superb form of late and have put in some excellent displays with performances improving and confidence flying. The same cannot be said of Leigh who are struggling and with a short turnaround in matches, they will struggle to pick themselves up for this tough mission which the hosts should win.
