THE TEAM NEWS

WALES

  • Wales were unable to back-up their opening round display as they were defeated by Ireland in Dublin which ended any hopes the Welsh had of making it consecutive Grand Slam Six Nations titles.
  • Dan Biggar and Josh Adams’ availability was up in the air after the pair suffered injury scares in the loss against Ireland with Biggar failing his HIA while Adam was forced off with a hip problem but the pair have both been named in the side for this important clash.
  • Head coach Wayne Pivac has made two changes to his side with scrum-half Gareth Davies and flanker Ross Moriarty earning recalls at the expense of Aaron Wainwright and Tomos Williams whilst lock Will Rowlands is in line to earn his first cap after he was named on the bench.

FRANCE

  • France were able to make it two wins from two in the Six Nations but they were made to work hard for their win over Italy with the French lacking the quality they showed in their impressive victory over England.
  • Fabien Galthie had made four changes to his initial squad for this contest but has only made one change to the starting XV and that has been forced upon him because of a tournament-ending injury to Vincent Rattez although there are further changes on the bench.
  • The injury to Rattez has resulted in a reshuffled midfield being named for this game with Virimi Vakatawa returning from injury and he will line-up in the number 13 shirt with Arthur Vincent starting at number 12 and those changes mean that Gael Fickou will start on the wing whilst there could be debuts for Jean-Baptiste Gros, Thomas Ramos and Dylan Cretin with the uncapped trio named among the replacements.

THE PREDICTION

Wales’ unbeaten run in the Six Nations came to an end as Ireland proved too good on home soil. They will look to bounce back as they host France in a game that could go either way. The French laid a marker for the tournament with their opening round win over England but were nowhere near as impressive as they edged their way past Italy. Both teams need to improve on their most recent performance and this should be a tight game that the home side can edge.
