  • Wales’ spell as the world’s highest ranked team was brief as back-to-back defeats against Ireland saw them fall to fifth and whilst that will have no bearing on how they perform at the Rugby World Cup, they will be looking to get off to a strong start.
  • Having claimed the Grand Slam in the Six Nations, Wales did not carry forward that form into their warm-up matches as they opted to field experimental line-ups in attempts to nail down their strongest XV.
  • The Welsh have been drawn in a strong Pool D and cannot afford any slip-ups but with the likes of Jonathan Davies and George North in a potent backline, they have the pace, power and skill to cause plenty of problems.

  • Georgia are yet to make it out of the pool stage at a Rugby World Cup and have been handed a difficult task again this time around with Wales and Australia just two of the teams standing in their way.
  • Having impressed in the European Nations Cup earlier in the year when they won all five of their matches, the Georgians struggled in two warm-up games against Scotland which highlighted the magnitude of the job at hand.
  • Whilst they may struggle to pick up wins, their fearsome front row of Levan Chilachava, Shalva Mamukashvili and Mikheil Nariashvili will cause problems for the opposition and are bound to leave their mark on the tournament.

Wales head into the Rugby World Cup on the back of a Grand Slam win in the Six Nations and will look to that form rather than that of their warm-up matches. The Welsh proved too good earlier in the year and those performances in competitive games will stand them in good stead ahead of a tilt at a first Rugby World Cup title. They face a side that could pose some problems in Georgia but ultimately there is a big gulf in class across the teams and Wales should have little problem in claiming the win.
