THE TEAM NEWS

HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS

  • Huddersfield got their season off to a superb start as they put in a dominant performance to beat Catalans in the south of France but they will be eager to back that up on home soil as they host Leeds.
  • Aidan Sezer was key on his Giants debut and he will play an integral role in his new side's bid to make it back-to-back wins with consistency proving to be Huddersfield’s big problem last season and a win here would go some way to proving that they are in for a better season.
  • Jake Wardle suffered a gruesome eye injury as a result of a fractured eye socket in last week’s contest and is set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines whilst Oliver Wilson also drops out to make way for Jordan Turner and Tom Holmes who return from suspension.

21-man squad: Clough, Edwards, English, Gaskell, Gavet, Holmes, Lawrence, Matagi, McIntosh, McGillvary, Murphy, O’Brien, Russell, I. Senior, L. Senior, Sezer, Ta’ai, Turner, Walne, Jo. Wardle, Wood

Unavailable: Ashton Golding (Injured), Leroy Cudjoe (Injured), Akuila Uate (Injured), Jake Wardle (Injured)

Questionable:

LEEDS RHINOS

  • Leeds were outplayed by Hull FC as the Rhinos got off to a poor start in a game that highlighted how much work they have to do this season with their forward pack looking on the small side in that contest.
  • The Rhinos were without prop Ava Seumanufagai and his absence was hard-felt through the middle of the pitch but he could return this week after he was named in Richard Agar’s 21-man squad.
  • Seumanufagai replaces captain Stevie Ward who drops out after failing to prove his fitness following a concussion in last week’s game and that will see Rhyse Martin skipper the side in his absence.

21-man squad: L. Briscoe, Cuthbertson, Donaldson, Dwyer, Evans, Gale, Handley, Holroyd, Hurrell, Lui, Martin, McLelland, Mellor, Myler, Newman, Oledzki, Prior, Seumanufagai, Smith, L. Sutcliffe, Walker

Unavailable: Tom Briscoe (Injured), Kruise Leeming (Injured), Alex Sutcliffe (Injured), Dom Crosby (Injured), Stevie Ward (Injured)

Questionable: Ava Seumanufagai (Injured), Konrad Hurrell (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Huddersfield and Leeds started the season in a very different manner and they now meet in round 2. Huddersfield looked impressive against Catalans whilst Leeds were poor in their loss to Hull FC and have now lost captain Stevie Ward to injury which is a disappointing blow. They should get some size back in the middle with Ava Seumanufagai set to return from injury but with the hosts boasting a big pack and coming into this in a confident mood, they should be able to win again.
