THE TEAM NEWS

WIGAN WARRIORS

Head Coach: Adrian Lam

Squad: Burgess, Byrne, Clubb, Farrell, French, Gildart, Greenwood, Hankinson, Hardaker, Isa, Leuluai, Marshall, Navarrete, Partington, Powell, Sammut, Sarginson, Smithies, Williams

Unavailable: Gabe Hamlin, Dom Manfredi, Tom Davies, Joe Bullock, Ben Flower

  • Wigan were made to work hard for their win over Hull KR last week but ultimately secured an eighth victory from their last nine matches as they closed the gap on second-place Warrington to just two points.
  • Bevan French made his Wigan debut from the bench last week and he will be hoping for more game time in this crucial contest with Warrington that could see the Warriors draw level on points with the Wolves in the race for second.
  • Wigan have been forced into making one change to the 19-man squad that they named for last week’s game as Ben Flower suffered a knee injury on his return from a back problem with Chris Hankinson replacing him whilst winger Joe Burgess will need to pass a late fitness test.

WARRINGTON WOLVES

Head Coach: Steve Price

Squad: Akauola, D. Clark, J. Clark, Cooper, Currie, Davis, Goodwin, Hill, King, Livett, Mamo, Murdoch-Masila, Patton, Philbin, Ratchford, Smith, Tasi, Westwood

Unavailable: Josh Charnley, Blake Austin, Jack Hughes

  • Warrington made life difficult for St. Helens with their under-strength team but were not good enough to stay with the table toppers.
  • Blake Austin is once again left out but Warrington have recalled some of the other players who missed last week with Daryl Clark, Jason Clark, Mike Cooper, Declan Patton, Joe Philbin and Toby King all back in the squad whilst Tom Lineham is available after he served a one-match suspension.
  • The Wolves may still rest some of their key men ahead of the Challenge Cup final with fringe players like Harvey Livett set to feature again as they attempt to force their way into head coach Steve Price’s reckoning for his 17 next week.

THE PREDICTION

Wigan have second place in their sight and can move a step closer to securing that spot with a win over the side currently occupying that position. Warrington could have one eye on next week's Challenge Cup final and with that distraction in place, the Warriors can improve their winning record. They performed well for the last couple of months and look set to mount an assault on the Grand Final and although this will be a big test of their credentials, they should be able to come out on top.
