- Gold Coast Titans struggled to break down a staunch Canberra Raiders defence last week and on the few occasions when they did, they were unable to take their chances as they fell to 2-2 for the season.
- The Titans ended the game without both regular halves with Jamal Fogarty forced off with a quad injury but he has been named here and could line-up alongside usual partner Ash Taylor who is a chance of making his comeback from a broken hand.
NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS
Starting 13: Ponga, To’a, Tuala, Shibasaki, Hunt, Watson, Green, Klemmer, Brailey, D. Saifiti, Frizell, Barnett, Sue – Interchanges: Randall, Saulo, King, Jones – Reserves: Johns, Musgrove, Sasagi, Smith
Unavailable: Edrick Lee (Injured), Lachlan Fitzgibbon (Injured), Jirah Momoisea (Injured), Bradman Best (Injured), Bailey Hodgson (Injured), Mitchell Pearce (Injured), Kurt Mann (Injured), Jacob Saifiti (Suspended), Tex Hoy (Injured)
- Newcastle Knights suffered a second consecutive loss as they went down to St. George Illawarra Dragons last week but they will point to some key injuries during that game as a major contributing factor to that defeat.
- The Knights will now be without Mitchell Pearce and Kurt Mann which will see a new-look halves pairing take to the field here but in better news, Kalyn Ponga is slated to return at fullback.
THE PREDICTION
Gold Coast Titans and Newcastle Knights both suffered injury issues in the halves last week as they succumbed to defeats but the hosts look in much better shape for this Round 6 contest. The Knights will be without Mitchell Pearce for a prolonged period after he suffered a pectoral injury while usual halves partner Kurt Mann is also out of this clash which means a big reshuffle for Newcastle. Kalyn Ponga’s potential return will help their stuttering attack but their significant injury list is likely to hold them back here with the Titans able to get back to winning ways to make it three wins in four against the Knights.
