THE TEAM NEWS

WESTS TIGERS

Starting 13: Doueihi, Nofoaluma, J. Leilua, Mbye, Talau, Reynolds, Brooks, Aloiai, Grant, Musgrove, L. Leilua, Lawrence, Twal – Interchanges: Mikaele, Packer, Chee-Kam, Seyfarth – Reserves: Marshall, Garner

Unavailable: Jacob Liddle (Injured)

  • Wests Tigers were unable to build on a blistering start to their game with Gold Coast Titans as they failed to kill their opponents off in what was a poor second half showing and they allowed the Titans to score a late try to snatch the victory from them.
  • The Tigers ended the game with 33 sets of six compared to 41 for the Titans and despite completing at just 1% less than their opponents, their lack of ball proved crucial as Gold Coast made them pay with Wests’ defensive issues becoming apparent.
  • Only two teams started Round 5 with more points conceded than the Tigers and Michael Maguire has wielded the axe with Benji Marshall dropped along with Robert Jennings, Luke Garner, Oliver Clark and Billy Walters with Josh Reynolds, Tommy Talau, Zane Musgrove, Russell Packer and Michael Chee-Kam coming into the 17.

CANBERRA RAIDERS

Starting 13: Nicoll-Klokstad, Simonsson, Croker, Scott, Cotric, Wighton, G. Williams, Papalii, Hodgson, Lui, Tapine, Whitehead, Soliola – Interchanges: Havili, Guler, Rapana, Sutton – Reserves: Starling, O'Donnell

Unavailable: Hudson Young (Suspended), John Bateman (Injured), Sebastian Kris (Illness), Corey Horsburgh (Illness)

  • Canberra Raiders were brought back down to earth with a thud following their terrific win away at Melbourne Storm as they were on the end of a heavy loss against Newcastle Knights with the Raiders failing to fire on both sides of the ball.
  • Canberra were outplayed for large spells of the game as the Newcastle ran in 34 points on the back of some superb yardage from their sets as the Raiders made 300 metres less than their opponents with 13 errors not helping their cause.
  • The Raiders had to make 37 tackles fewer than the Knights with them missing 12 more which will be a concern ahead of this contest and even though his side suffered their first defeat of the year last week, head coach Ricky Stuart was going to stick with the same 17 but he has been forced into a late change with Corey Horsburgh out due to illness which sees Ryan Sutton come onto the bench.

THE PREDICTION

Canberra Raiders suffered a shock loss last week as they failed to live with an impressive Newcastle Knights outfit and they will be eager to respond here. The Raiders had won all three of their games to start the campaign before that loss and will hope it is just a blip with this game against Wests Tigers a perfect opportunity for them to bounce back. The Tigers handed Gold Coast Titans their first win in almost a year with a lacklustre display last week and despite making wholesale changes to their side, it is unlikely to be enough to live with the Raiders who should be able to win by at least eight points.
