THE TEAM NEWS

MANLY-WARRINGAH SEA EAGLES

Head Coach: Des Hasler

Starting 13: Elliot, Taufua, Parker, Suli, Garrick, Walker, Cherry-Evans, Fonua-Blake, Koroisau, Keppie, Waddell, Gosiewski, J. Trbojevic – Interchanges: Fainu, Olakau’atu, Perrett, Sipley – Reserves: Croker, Cust, Funa, Williams

Unavailable: Albert Hopoate, Joel Thompson, Tom Trbojevic, Morgan Boyle, Martin Taupau, Curtis Sironen, Taniela Paseka

  • Manly ended the regular season with back-to-back losses and their increasing injury toll threatens to bring a premature end to what has been a brilliant year but they will still have the belief within their camp that they can progress this week.

  • The Sea Eagles could be without a host of players in the pack through injury whilst Martin Taupau has copped a one-match ban and that forced them into a drastic move with the NRL granting them an exemption to name Tony Williams despite him not being in their top 30.

  • With their pack looking thin on the ground with Taupau, Joel Thompson, Morgan Boyle, Curtis Sironen and Taniela Paseka all out and Jack Gosiewski not looking 100% fit, Williams could come into the side before kick-off having been named among the reserves.

CRONULLA-SUTHERLAND SHARKS

Head Coach: John Morris

Starting 13: Dugan, Feki, Xerri, Morris, Gray, Johnson, Townsend, Woods, J. Brailey, Prior, Nikora, Graham, Gallen – Interchanges: Capewell, Williams, Fifita, Hamlin-Uele – Reserves: Magoulias, B. Brailey, Flanagan, Moylan

Unavailable: Matt Moylan

  • Cronulla produced a classy display to defeat Wests Tigers last week to seal their play-off berth but now face bogey team Manly in what should be a very tight and nervy affair at Lottoland.

  • The Sharks were hoping Matt Moylan could overcome a hamstring injury especially with winger Ronaldo Mulitalo missing out due to a ban but he has once again failed in his bid to prove his fitness and will drop off the extended bench.

  • Aaron Gray replaces Mulitalo on the wing in the only change in personnel from last week’s win but Aaron Woods has shifted to the starting side with Andrew Fifita reverting to the bench.

THE PREDICTION

Manly will have home advantage in this clash with Cronulla after Lottoland was cleared after a safety concern. That could prove crucial for the injury-hit Sea Eagles who will be without numerous players but with 15 wins from the last 17 against the Sharks, Manly could still get home. It will take a mammoth effort from their patched up side but head coach Des Hasler will not allow them to feel sorry for themselves with some key players missing and although Cronulla should win, Manly will take some beating on home soil.
