THE TEAM NEWS

LAHORE QALANDARS

Coach: Aqib Javed

Captain: Fakhar Zaman

  • The Qalandars were officially eliminated on Sunday afternoon when the Karachi Kings pulled off the stunning one-run victory over Quetta Gladiators so this match has nothing riding on it after they themselves lost their last three matches in a row.

  • The bowling has been one of their strong points throughout the tournament with Haris Rauf being something of a revelation and Rahat Ali, Sandeep Lamichhane and Shaheen Shah Afridi all contributing well, but they were particularly disappointing in the first match in Karachi on Friday being hit for 238/3 by Islamabad.

  • The batting order remains notably weakened without Mohammad Hafeez and AB de Villiers, and while they do possess some firepower, it is vastly reduced although they will hope to go out in some style against bottom of the ladder Sultans.

MULTAN SULTANS

Coach: Johan Botha

Captain: Shoaib Malik

  • The Sultans have not played in the last week when they lost to Karachi Kings in what was their third consecutive defeat and that summed up a hugely disappointing PSL campaign for them this year.

  • Shoaib Malik is the 6th topscoring batsmen in the competition but aside from him, James Vince and Johnson Charles, runs have been tough to come by for the Sultans and that does not bode well on the batting-friendly strip in Karachi.

  • The bowling unit has been distinctly average also albeit economical but that will be heavily tested here and they are expected to field their strongest available side as they aim to finish the tournament with some pride.

THE PREDICTION

Both of these teams have been poor in this edition of the PSL but their campaigns have been hampered by injuries and international call-ups. The Qalandars will have genuinely thought that their chances would have come down to this final day of matches in the group stage but Karachi’s miraculous win on Sunday robbed them of that. The Sultans have not played for a week and they may be a little rusty and lacking in motivation for this final match. The Qalandars will be keen to go out in style and they should just have the edge having already played in Karachi and tasted the conditions there.
