THE TEAM NEWS

KARACHI KINGS

Coach: Mickey Arthur

Captain: Imad Wasim

  • The race for the top four places is heating up now with only three matches to play for the Kings and they come into this match against the Sultans knowing they need a win to move into the play-off places and put pressure on the teams around them.

  • They have won two of their last three matches but the pressure is still on them as they sit in fifth place and their big-name batting line-up has finally shown some signs of hitting top form although Colin Munro continues to struggle and they need the big-hitting Blackcap to find some form quickly.

  • Aussie fast bowler Aaron Summers came in for the last game and bowled reasonably well, although they may switch up their fourth overseas player once again as Ben Dunk may return or even Sikandar Raza or Ravi Bopara.

MULTAN SULTANS

Coach: Johan Botha

Captain: Shoaib Malik

  • The defeat for the Sultans last time out on Friday against Quetta Gladiators virtually ended their play-off hopes and it would take a remarkable run of results along with them winning their remaining two matches for them to reach the top four now so their campaign is pretty much over now.

  • Their campaign was struggling from the very start with Steve Smith, Joe Denly and Nicholas Pooran all unavailable for various reasons and with Andre Russell having also departed for international duty, they are and remain significantly weakened.

  • International pace bowler Mohammad Abbas played his first game last time out and went 0/33 from his four overs but they will hope for better here and they will hope their veteran local players like Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Irfan can produce big performances in their final two matches.

THE PREDICTION

The Sultans’ difficult PSL campaign is petering to an end and this will be another tough assignment for them. They have been decimated by absentees to some of their big-name acquisitions and that has diluted the quality of their play significantly. While they have a remote chance now of reaching the top four, their motivation may be dented and that should work in the favour of the Karachi Kings. They have the greater quality all-round, and unless the Sultans veterans can reproduce some magic, it should be a comfortable win for the Kings.
