HEAD-TO-HEAD

All-time meetings: N/A

MULTAN SULTANS

Coach: Tom Moody

Captain: Shoaib Malik

  • The Sultans suffered their worst performance of the tournament so far on Friday as they became the first team to lose to the Qalandars after being bowled out as they collapsed from 92/2 to 114 all out.
  • Whitley was among those in the middle order who failed miserably and his place could come under pressure now and Darren Bravo could possibly come back in for him unless he is given another chance.
  • That defeat saw them knocked off top spot and with fifth placed Peshawar Zalmi just three points behind them, they will be keen to win at least one of their final two matches they have left in the group stage.

KARACHI KINGS

Coach: Mickey Arthur

Captain: Imad Wasim

  • The Karachi Kings have lost their last two matches against the Gladiators and United, and combined with the washout in the previous match with the Sultans so they are now three matches without a win after three consecutive wins to start PSL 2018
  • The Kings bowling attack has been their main weakness in recent games conceding plenty against the Gladiators and Kings and unable to stem the flow at any point, so that will be one area of improvement that will have to be remedied and could see changes.
  • Shahid Afridi was moved up the order to open last time out and it backfired badly as he looked woefully out of touch as he has all tournament with the bat, so he should drop back down to six or seven here.

PREDICTION

The Sultans and Kings were the best two teams in the first third of this competition but have dropped off in recent weeks. They need to regain their intensity to maintain their top four places and that means improving with both bat and ball. So much relies on the top order and the Sultans still produced a good start with the bat through Sangakkara last time out while the Kings are still scratching around for an opening partnership but have more depth. Difficult to split these teams at their best and this will come down to whoever can pick themselves up from their miserable last outing, making this an unpredictable one to call.
