Alan Pardew may well have been given a stay of execution after West Brom’s defeat to Watford last week, but it could just be delaying the inevitable as the Baggies find themselves now eight points from safety with just nine games remaining.
Failure to pick up a win against Leicester this weekend would not only lessen the club’s already slim chances of staying up this season, but it would also push their current manager closer to the Hawthorns exit door. Opponents Leicester are sitting comfortably in eighth and they will be looking to close the gap on Burnley who sit above them in and currently occupy what could well be the last Europa League slot come the end of the season.
West Brom have lost their last five league outings and with the side so low on confidence and ideas there is little to suggest that the barren run won’t be extended to six come Saturday evening.
Leicester’s title winning campaign of 2015-16 saw them go to the Hawthorns in October of that season and come away with all three points thanks to a 3-2 win. They had to do it the hard way after falling behind to a Salomon Rondon first half strike, but three unanswered goals from the Foxes wrapped up the win. There was still time for a late Rickie Lambert consolation but it was not enough to stop Claudio Ranieri’s men securing the victory that afternoon.
