LAST MEETING
New Zealand beat Bangladesh by an innings and 12 runs

THE TEAM NEWS

NEW ZEALAND

Captain: Kane Williamson

  • New Zealand managed to claim another innings win over Bangladesh as they sealed the series with the Blackcaps now looking to secure a whitewash in the third and final game in Christchurch.

  • After a dominant batting display in the first match, New Zealand only required 432 this time around with the bowlers doing a brilliant job of taking 20 wickets for a total of 430 runs with Trent Boult and Neil Wagner combining for 16 of those wickets with magnificent efforts.

  • Kane Williamson is a doubt for the Blackcaps for the third match after suffering a shoulder injury but he will be given every chance to prove his fitness whilst BJ Watling is also a doubt after going off injured in the second game with Will Young on standby to make his debut.

BANGLADESH

Captain: Mahmudullah

  • Bangladesh suffered another big defeat but unlike in the first Test when they put in a valiant display, they were very much second best as they went down by an innings and 12 runs as the series slipped away from them.

  • Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah were the only two players to score a half century during either innings as Bangladesh struggled to secure runs like they did in the first Test with the bowling unit struggling once as they only managed six wickets.

  • The tourists may look to give some game time to some of their fringe players who have travelled to New Zealand with Mushfiqur Rahim one option to come in having recovered from several injuries but Shakib al Hasan is still unfit and has been ruled out.

THE PREDICTION

New Zealand have dominated both Test matches so far but their performance in the second Test was even more convincing than the first. Ross Taylor’s spectacular 200 came off just 212 balls as his side claimed another victory having only batted once in the rain-affected game. This game could be similar in terms of the weather with numerous days set to be hit by rain but the Blackcaps can still manage to claim a positive result with the Bangladesh bowlers unable to halt the onslaught from the New Zealand batsmen.
