THE TEAM NEWS

NEW ZEALAND

Captain: Kane Williamson

  • New Zealand got off to the perfect start in their three-match ODI series against Bangladesh after they were comfortable winners in Napier, dispatching their opponents by eight wickets with Martin Guptill the key man.

  • Guptill made a hugely impressive return to the side following a back injury as he shared a first-wicket partnership of 103 with fellow opener Henry Nicholls with Guptill going on to score an unbeaten 117 in a patient but well carved out knock.

  • Tim Southee and Todd Astle were the two men omitted from the 13-man squad for the first match and will be hoping to get some game time for the Blackcaps here but they’re more likely to come into a much-changed team for the third and final match.

BANGLADESH

Captain: Mashrafe Mortaza

  • Bangladesh were on the end of a heavy defeat in the first ODI as New Zealand ran out eight-wicket winners with the hosts easily able to chase down the 233 that they had been set by the touring side.

  • Bangladesh were bowled out for 232 with their openers failing to get them off to a good start with neither making double figures and despite a couple of good scores from lower down the order, New Zealand make light work of the Bangladeshi bowling attack.

  • Steve Rhodes may look to alter his side in a bid to change their fortunes with the Bangladesh coach needing more from both his top order batsmen in the second game as the Tigers look to win their first ever game on New Zealand soil.

THE PREDICTION

New Zealand proved far too good for Bangladesh in the first ODI game of the three-match series and it could be a similar tale in the second match if the Tigers do not learn from their mistakes with early wickets preventing them from building a genuine score to defend. The Blackcaps looked ominous and were able to easily chase down the total on a slow track but faster conditions here could really suit the hosts and they can seal the series with another win here.
