THE LOWDOWN

After winning his first ten professionals fights, Markus Perez has gone 2-3 since joining the UFC and he will be keen to get back to winning ways after a unanimous decision loss to Wellington Turman last time out. The submission specialist has lost two of his only three fights outside of Brazil and he will look at his opponent’s recent record and fancy his chances here.

Eric Spicely has lost four of his last six bouts in the UFC and he was stopped in three of those four setbacks so he has looked pretty vulnerable of late. After three defeats in a row in 2017-18, Spicely departed the UFC and went on to win consecutive fights in CES. That led to his return to the UFC last June but he lost a unanimous decision to Deron Winn so he will feel under pressure to get a win here or he could be facing the cut once again.

THE PREDICTION

Eric Spicely’s UFC career is hanging by a thread and anything other than a win could see him released from the organisation so the pressure is firmly on him. He meets Markus Perez who has had a mixed time in the organisation himself but he will be confident of getting the win. Perez is excellent on the ground but carries some knockout power too and while Spicely has struggled at this level, Perez has shown some potential. His three career losses have all come in the UFC and via the judges’ scorecards while Spicely has been knocked out twice and submitted twice in his last nine fights. This could well be another stoppage and Perez should get the win.

Winner: Perez via submission
