THE LOWDOWN

Austin Hubbard returns to action determined to bounce back from a decision loss at UFC 248 at the start of March as he lost to Mark Madsen. That was his third fight in the UFC and his third decision with two of them going against him. With the 28-year-old battling so hard to get into the UFC, he will be desperate not to lose a third fight in the promotion and put his future in jeopardy.

Hubbard was slated to face Joe Solecki here but he was forced out of the fight so UFC newcomer Max Rohskopf steps up on one week’s notice. The 25-year-old from Ohio has had five professional MMA fights and is unbeaten in those bouts having won all of them via submission. Four of those came via rear-naked choke and the other by anaconda choke but he may find the more experienced Hubbard less likely to succumb to submission.

THE PREDICTION

Austin Hubbard and Max Rohskopf meet in what should be an intriguing bout on the undercard and both will be desperate to impress. Hubbard is likely to prioritise the win over entertainment given he has lost two of his three fights in the UFC but he will have to be cautious against submission-specialist Rohskopf. The UFC newcomer is an unknown quantity to a degree but he will surely look to revert to type and go for the submission. Hubbard should be well rounded enough to avoid that and he will push to take the fight deep where he should have the edge in condition thanks to his recent fights going the distance.

Winner: Austin Hubbard via decision.
