All-time meetings: Rajasthan Royals W7, Chennai Super Kings W12

THE TEAM NEWS

RAJASTHAN ROYALS

Coach: Paddy Upton

Captain: Ajinkya Rahane

  • Rajasthan bounced back with an inspired win over the Kings XI, after being beaten just two days earlier by the same opposition as the Royals’ bowlers were exceptional in defending a modest total of 158.
  • Ish Sodhi was included for the second match against the Kings XI and was absolutely dominant as the New-Zealand born leg-spinner captured an amazing 1/14 from his four overs to choke the Kings XI batting order and help force the win.
  • The Rajasthan bowlers should be safe after another impressive display, however there are still some issues with the batting line-up. D’Arcy Short was replaced in the side for the last match but could come back in for the severely out of form Ben Stokes although after spending so much money on Stokes, it is unlikely they will drop him at all.

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

Coach: Stephen Fleming

Captain: MS Dhoni

  • Chennai’s previous match was a dominant performance against the Royal Challengers Bangalore as after restricting RCB to a lowly 127, the Super Kings chased the total four wickets down comfortably.
  • David Willey was brought in for just his first match of the season and performed very well with the short form specialist taking 1/24 from his four overs and he will be looking to cement his spot in the starting eleven for the rest of the tournament.
  • With Chennai’s strong position you would assume any changes would be enforced ones but some of their older players like Watson and Bravo could get a rest.

THE PREDICTION

Rajasthan have everything to play for as they aim to break their way into the top four while Chennai will be looking to bank another win and keep themselves entrenched in finals calculations. Rajasthan sit just one victory away from a top four berth but are depending on other results so their sole focus will be winning their remaining matches. Whilst Rajasthan have some dangerous players such as Jofra Archer and Jos Buttler, the consistency of the collective playing group has hindered their charge for the finals. Once again if Chennai bring the right mindset, expect them to bank the points.
