THE TEAM NEWS

KINGS XI PUNJAB

Coach: Brad Hodge

Captain: Ravichandran Ashwin

  • The Kings XI were dealt a huge blow after going down to KKR in what was arguably the most entertaining match of the season. KKR posted a huge 6/245 and whilst the Kings XI innings was impressive, the total was far too great as the Kings XI fell 31 runs short.
  • The Kings XI season started this IPL campaign brightly, winning five of their first six matches but in recent times they have now won just once from their past five outings as the wheels have seemed to come off.
  • Although it was a loss, the Kings XI batting order did admirably well in chasing KKR’s 245 so do not expect many changes in that department. Among the bowlers, Akshar Patel (0/52) and Barinder San (1/48 from 3) were expensive and could be rotated out of the side.

ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE

Coach: Daniel Vettori

Captain: Virat Kohli

  • RCB kept their slim finals hopes alive with a win over the Delhi Daredevils. After being set the tricky target of 181, RCB had to rely solely on star men Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to chase down the target passing the score with five balls remaining.
  • The last time these two teams met saw RCB produce a hard-fought win with Umesh Yadav (3/23) starring with the ball and AB be Villiers (57 from 40) dominating with the bat so they will be looking for a repeat of that here.
  • Once again RCB will look to field a full-strength line-up in a last-ditch effort to make the top four so the pressure is on them to get the win.

THE PREDICTION

In what is a vital match, both teams are still in the hunt for a finals appearance. The Kings XI have put themselves in a vulnerable position as teams like Mumbai and Rajasthan start to flourish and threaten their position. RCB have been poor almost all season but still have a faint hope if they can secure a victory over the Kings XI. Both teams have an unhealthy reliance of their top order players to post a big score so this one will come down to the bowlers. The Kings XI have AJ Tye (20 wickets) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (14) in their arsenal along with Ravi Ashwin. Many would agree the Kings XI would deserve a finals berth over RCB and their hunger for a finals’ appearance and form over the entire season should secure them an all-important victory.
