After finishing mid-table in season 2017, Kings XI Punjab will be looking for a strong start to the tournament. The Kings XI are one of the IPL’s founding teams, however the Kings XI have been poor performers in the IPL, they have only gone past the league stage twice (2008 and 2014).
Kings XI have recruited some of the best performing BBL 17/18 players with Aaron Finch, Marcus Stoinis, AJ Tye and Ben Dwarshuis joining T20 specialists Chris Gayle and David Miller as the overseas players for season 2018 so they come into this with big expectations.
Ravi Ashwin is skippering the side and he will undoubtedly be a key figure for them with his off-spin bowling, but this looks to be one of the strongest squads that KXI Punjab have built in their IPL history.
Coach: Ricky Ponting
Captain: Gautam Gambhir
Much like the Kings XI, Dehli have also been in the competition since 2008 as a founding team and have not had much success also not winning a title and only making into the semi-finals three times in nine seasons but they are desperate for a good showing this time round.
The Daredevils have a lot of X-factor in their squad for 2018. Aussie livewire Glenn Maxwell and New Zealanders Trent Boult and Colin Munro are the key signatures for the upcoming season but they have been dealt a blow with the news that South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the competition.
Along with these players, locals such as Gautam Gambhir, Mohammed Shami and Amit Mishra to ensure their squad foundations are solid as the Daredevils desperately try to improve their dreadful winning percentage of just 43% in the IPL.
Both teams will be looking to get the tournament off to a strong start after mediocre records in the tournament. Both teams have recruited well, although the loss of Rabada is a major blow for the Daredevils. Glenn Maxwell returns to Mohali to face the team he was captain of just last year, and both of these teams have quite a different look about them. It should prove to be a great spectacle and literally one that could go either way depending on which side settles into the new IPL season the quickest and which batting line-up catches fire immediately.
