THE TEAM NEWS

DELHI DAREDEVILS

Coach: Ricky Ponting

Captain: Gautam Gambhir

  • Delhi put in a spirited performance to claim victory over the second placed Chennai last time as they posted a low score of 162 but the bowling unit worked well together to restrict CSK to just 128 in an impressive display.

  • As the season comes to a close, Delhi will be extremely disappointed with the output of key players with Glenn Maxwell (147 runs from 11 matches and 5 wickets), Jason Roy (120 runs from 5 matches) and Colin Munro (63 runs from 5 matches) failing to deliver on their large price tags. For Delhi, it has been the locals carrying the team with Rishabh Pant (620 runs) and Shreyas Iyer (405) dominating with the bat.

  • Hard to predict what changes will be made for Delhi’s last match of the year and the likes of Glenn Maxwell who has had a horror IPL could be dropped once again in favour of a younger player.

MUMBAI INDIANS

Coach: Mahela Jayawardene

Captain: Rohit Sharma

  • Mumbai jumped back on the winners list and kept themselves in contention with a crucial victory over the free-falling Kings XI. After posting 186, the KXI top order threatened with K.L Rahul (94) and Aaron Finch (46) making some serious inroads but the Mumbai bowlers bounced back in empathic fashion, taking a flurry of late wickets to halt the run rate and secure a thrilling three-run victory.

  • Kieron Pollard was shock inclusion for this match after being left out for the past few rounds but the big West Indian finally showed what he is capable of scoring a blistering 50 from 23 balls when it counted coming in at 4/72 and ensured the Mumbai Indians were able to post a defendable total.

  • It is difficult to see Mumbai making any changes from the team that defeated the Kings XI. JP Duminy was omitted for Pollard and is always a chance to play however you would think Mahela Jayawardene would have decided on a settled line-up for this crunch match.

THE PREDICTION

The equation is simple for Mumbai, a win will see them reach the finals and secure a top four place whilst a loss will see them narrowly miss out. It has been an amazing turn around for Mumbai who started the season with just one victory from their first six matches but have gone on to record five wins from their next seven. Delhi on the other hand have won just four matches for the season in what has been a disastrous tournament. Mumbai’s form has come off the back of improvement across the entire squad, for the bowlers Mitch McClengahan and Hardik Pandya have really stepped up after poor starts to the tournament whilst the entire batting order has seemed more settled with Suryakumar Yadav leading from the front. Expect the newly found form of Mumbai to cap off an extraordinary run of form and sneak into the finals with a victory over Delhi who will just be playing for pride once again.
