PREVIEW

Kempton held its first meeting since racing restarted in the UK on Tuesday and they will play host to another nine races on Wednesday. The first race at 13:00 looks to have plenty of chances and is best swerved although it will be interesting to see if Never Dark can do the business on his handicap debut.

The first horse to hold real appeal comes in the Handicap at 13:35 with Griggy looking to have a great chance. He boasts a solid line of form with four wins over the winter while he finished second in his latest race at this course at the start of March. That was over 6f but the drop back to 5f should suit and he should be able to get his nose in front in this one.

John Gosden boasts a trio of entries in the 14:10 but Sun Bear with Frankie Dettori on board looks to be the pick of those having posted a solid second place in her only race to date. Only three horses in the entire field have any experience under their belt and that performance on the heavy ground left a lot of room for improvement. She is bred for a longer trip than that extended mile at Nottingham and should be more than comfortable over this distance.

Born With Pride is fancied to go close in the Oaks and a win here in the 14:45 would set her up well for that task. She made a winning debut in listed company in November on what was heavy ground and that stands her in good stead for this, especially if she looks to take up the running over a slight step up in trip. The Gosden/Dettori combo could pose issues with Hypothetical but William Haggis’ filly should be able to get her nose in front.

The Class 1 listed race at 15:55 looks to be a brilliant race and several horses are in with a chance. However, the one to side with looks to be Nazeef who has won her last three races. This is a step up in class but she is two from two over this distance of 1m and the filly has also won on her only start on the polytrack. She has some tough competition from Billesdon Brook and Scentasia but Jim Crowley has a 50% strike rate when riding for John Gosden in the last year and they can improve that record here.

The lucky last could throw up a decent priced winner with Glamourous Crescent making some appeal. Having return to Chris Mason, he will hope the filly can improve on a solid showing last season where she managed to finish in the frame on nine of 10 races with one of those ending in victory. The 7f proved a touch too far on her last outing when finishing a narrow second at this course but the drop back to 6f should suit her pace and she should be able to at least place here.
