After a somewhat underwhelming Champion Chase on Wednesday, it will be up to Paisley Park (4/6) and the rest of the Stayers’ Hurdle field to deliver in Thursday’s big race. He won this race last year and is unbeaten with jockey Aidan Coleman on board with Paisley winning all seven of his races with Coleman in the saddle. He is a constant improver and the eight-year-old is the stand out horse with many predicting this to be the ‘banker’ of the week.
Summerville Boy (9/1) chased Paisley Park home in the pair’s last race which happened to be over course and distance back in January. Summerville was only just over a length behind in that outing and looks comfortable now returned to hurdling this season but it will take a huge effort to get his nose in front of the favourite.
City Island (14/1) is an interesting horse that could enter the calculations for the frame. The Martin Brassil horse has had a wind operation in preparation for this race and looks to have been shaping up for this meeting all season. The step-up in trip is likely to be a welcome one and he will get to show off his stamina.
It is very difficult to look anywhere other than Paisley Park for this race although there will be some reservations after Defi Du Seuil’s failure yesterday. He looks the standout horse in the field by a long way and will take some beating and even at odds-on, he is a solid price. Paisley should take the victory and City Island is a good option for an each-way selection.
