What is the predicted weather for the Safeway Open? Temperatures around 30-31c with slight winds of 12-15 mph all weekend

  • Californian Brendan Steele knows this course better than anybody having won back-to-back titles here in 2016 and 2017, and there is nobody else in the field this week that has the local knowledge combined with track record in Napa.
  • After missing the cut in the first event back after lockdown, Steele has been solid ever since then and he did well in some prestigious events like the Travelers where he finished sixth and 22nd in the PGA so he will be looking to get the 2020/21 PGA Tour off to a good start and he can compete for a top ten spot on Sunday.

TIP: Top ten finish

  • It was too little too late for Si Woo Kim in the Tour Championship as he failed to make the final 30 players but he ended the season with some good form finishing third in the Wyndham and that came after a 13th-place finish in the PGA.
  • He made his first appearance at The Safeway Open last year and ended tied in 49th place but that will not phase the Korean youngster and he is one played primed to make a good start to the new season if his end of 2019-20 is anything to go by.

TIP: Winner

  • There were some highs for Harold Varner III in the 2019-20 season especially after the restart, but there were also a number if lows and the Ohio native missed four cuts in his last eight events yet he also managed to finish seventh in the Wyndham last month.
  • Varner was tied 17th at The Safeway Open last year with his -9 and 14th the previous year with the same score so he has solid form here and he can improve on that and compete for a top five finish on Sunday evening.

TIP: Top five finish
