It seems as much a terrible shame that this match is not the 2019 Roland-Garros final as it is to attempt to predict it. There is no question that Rafael Nadal, world number two, is the favourite on clay anyway, let alone at the Grand Slam he has seen fit to dominate throughout his career. So much so, that this is Roger Federer’s 17th appearance at the French Open, and at 37 years old he has just the one title. Federer seemed to struggle with the conditions somewhat in his previous match with Stan Wawrinka but showed himself to be as much a fighter as ever. This match could balance on the winner of the first set, with Rafa always keen to come out of the blocks like a charging bull. If Federer can shock him early, this could go the distance. However, a four-set victory for the Spaniard seems the most feasible.
