THE PREDICTION
Barcelona’s consistently poor performances throughout the season had been masked by the sheer quality of Leo Messi, Pedri and Frenkie De Jong. Their 2021, on paper, had been positive. However, their 4-1 home defeat to PSG has cost them a tilt at European glory whilst a Supercopa defeat to Athletic means no easy silverware. A first-leg of the Copa semi final defeat to Sevilla and 1-1 draw at home to struggling Cadiz in the league mean the alternative routes to a trophy are also pretty much shut off. They are a mess off the pitch and, for a club the size of Barcelona, scandalously reliant on one player. They come up against an Elche side on the back of their first victory in months; a slender 1-0 win over Eibar. However, the home side should have enough to defeat them this time – like they did in the reverse fixture a month ago.
