THE TEAM NEWS
- Pachuca are winless in three Clausura matches so far and their record does not look promising with two losses, one goal scored and five conceded over that span. They are coming off a win in the Copa MX earlier this week, however, so that should boost their morale a bit. They suffered a 3-0 away loss at Leon in their most recent league match.
- Los Tuzos could be slightly depleted ahead of this contest with four injured players. These are defenders Victor Mora and Emmanuel Garcia Vaca, midfielder Luis Chavez, and promising youngster Eugenio Pizzuto.
Expected starting XI: Alfonso Blanco; Raul Lopez Gomez, Gustavo Cabral, Oscar Murillo, Erick Aguirre; Jonathan Copete, Rubens Sambueza, Jorge Hernandez, Cristian Souza; Victor Davila; Franco Jara
- Tigres UANL ended a two-game winless streak to begin the year last week, when they hosted Atlas and delivered a 2-1 home win. They have lost their lone away match this season but, if we consider road games only, then Los Felinos own a W3, D1, L1 mark over their last five outings.
- Tigres should have several players listed as questionable ahead of this contest with both starting midfielders, Guido Pizarro and Rafael Carioca, considered game-time decisions. Jurgen Damm remains sidelined, while Francisco Meza and Julian Quinones are both long-term absentees. The same goes for Jose Torres.
Expected starting XI: Nahuel Guzman; Luis Rodriguez, Hugo Ayala, Diego Reyes, Juan Martinez; Jesus Duenas, Javier Aquino, Jordan Sierra; Luis Quinones, Andre-Pierre Gignac, Nicolas Lopez (Eduardo Vargas)
It’s safe to say both Pachuca and Tigres UANL started the season on the wrong foot. Both clubs have been playing poorly since the calendar flipped to 2020 and injuries might be partly to blame since they have been depleted. However, Pachuca have been unable to gather positive results at home – W1, D1, L2 in their last four Liga MX matches at Estadio Hidalgo – while Tigres have lost just once over that span on the road. That home/away split should be enough reason to consider Tigres as favourites.
