THE TEAM NEWS
- Necaxa are coming off a 2-0 home win over Puebla and there’s no question they have kicked off their season on a strong note since they remain undefeated thus far with two wins and one draw. Plus, they have gone undefeated in three of their last four league matches (W2, D1, L1).
- Necaxa will have a huge absence here since star goalkeeper Hugo Gonzalez left the pitch during the team’s previous game with an ankle injury, and he could be sidelined for weeks. Carlos Guzman remains a long-term absentee due to a broken leg.
Expected starting XI: Yosgart Gutiérrez; Ricardo Chávez, Rodrigo Noya, Ventura Alvarado, Raúl Sandoval; Claudio Baeza, Fernando Arce, Juan Delgado, Daniel Álvarez; Diego Chávez, Mauro Quiroga
- Rayados are coming off a 2-1 home loss to Queretaro and the schedule hasn’t been kind to them thus far. Monterrey are winless in their first three Liga MX matches with one draw and two defeats. The two losses have come in back-to-back matches.
- Attacking midfielder Aviles Hurtado remains out with a knee injury, and there’s no certain timetable for his return. Left-back Lionel Vangioni has been listed as questionable due to an undisclosed injury sustained last week. Rodolfo Pizarro has left the team in the past few days to join MLS franchise Inter Miami
Expected starting XI: Marcelo Barovero; Stefan Medina, César Montes, Nicolás Sánchez, Jesús Gallardo; Celso Ortiz, Carlos Rodríguez; Dorlan Pabón, Maximiliano Meza, Vincent Janssen; Rogelio Funes Mori
Necaxa and Monterrey both made the playoffs in the Apertura. In fact, Monterrey are the reigning league champions but they seem to be quite far away from the team of last season as they have been struggling at both ends of the pitch. Necaxa are the complete opposite since they’re yet to lose during the Clausura campaign. If we also add the fact that Necaxa are at home in this game, then the hosts look set for a comfortable victory.
