THE TEAM NEWS
ATLETICO SAN LUIS
- Atletico San Luis remain undefeated so far in Liga MX following the first matches (W1, D2) and are coming off a 1-1 away draw at Necaxa. They won their previous home match in the Clausura by edging Cruz Azul 2-1 but they have lost four of their five matches at home in all competitions dating back to last season.
- San Luis do not have injury concerns ahead of this match. Their biggest selection dilemma relates to whether Ian Gonzalez or German Berterame will partner Nicolas Ibanez up front as both players have been rotating of late.
Expected starting XI: Carlos Rodriguez; Matias Catalan, Dionicio Escalante, Fernando Leon, Luis Ricardo Reyes; Juan David Castro, Camilo Mayada, Luis Felipe Gallegos, Javier Cortes; Nicolas Ibanez, German Berterame
- Guadalajara are riding a four-game winless streak in all competitions (90 minutes only – D3, L1) and they secured a 0-0 draw at Pachuca in their first away match during the current Clausura campaign. They have gone W2, D2, L1 in their last five competitive matches away from home dating back to the 2019 Apertura campaign.
- Chivas de Guadalajara will be quite depleted up front ahead of this match with both Ernesto Alexis Vega and Jose Juan Macias sidelined due to injuries. Oswaldo Alanis has departed to join MLS franchise San Jose Earthquakes while defenders Jesus Sanchez and Jose Maduena will also miss this game through injury. Ronaldo Cisneros is suspended.
Expected starting XI: Jose Antonio Rodriguez; Miguel Ponce, Gilberto Sepulveda, Heram Mier, Cristian Calderon; Fernando Beltran, Jesus Molina; Isaac Brizuela, Javier Lopez, Uriel Antuna; Oribe Peralta
Atletico San Luis have been playing above their expectations but they are unlikely to keep this run going for a prolonged period. Even though Chivas have struggled to begin the year, they have a strong squad and will aim to shake off their disappointing Copa MX elimination against a San Luis side that tends to struggle on the road. The last three meetings between these two sides at Estadio Alfonso Lastras Ramirez have ended with under 2.5 goals and that shouldn’t change here although Chivas should come out on top just like they have in their last two trips to this venue.
