THE PREDICTION
As we edge closer to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the defending champions appear to be a bit shaky. Les Bleus won the previous edition of the UEFA Nations League last summer but were beaten by Switzerland on penalties in the Round of 16 of UEFA Euro 2020. The main XI and core of the team that won the last World Cup has been a little bit dismantled or, pretty much everyone bar one or two, has declined or had off-field issues to deal with. The home team have started their UEFA Nations League campaign with two defeats and two draws in their opening four games. They shared a 1-1 draw in Vienna in June, with Ralf Rangnick’s pressing style of play being taken to quicker with the Austrian national team than his Manchester United side did. They will seek to get at France, particularly on the counter, and may well have opportunities to score. The French will be expected to win, especially in Paris, but both teams scoring looks a good bet.
