THE TEAM NEWS

KERALA BLASTERS

  • Kerala Blasters have now gone four matches without a win and suffered their third defeat in those four matches when they lost 1-0 to defending Indian Super League champions Bengaluru last time out.
  • They created a number of good openings against Bengaluru but the final touch was not there. It’s an issue that has been the case recently as is shown in their return of only one goal scored in their last four fixtures.
  • Kerala have had injury problems this season and they were further compounded when Mohammed Rafi had to leave the field shortly after coming on as a sub, meaning they had to play the final ten minutes with only ten men. Kerala were already missing defender Gianni Zuiverloon, midfielder Mario Arques and of course centre-back Jairo Rodrigues who is out long term.

GOA

  • Goa will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season having lost to 1-0 to Jamshedpur in their last outing. Prior to that game they had picked up two wins and two draws from their opening four matches of the 2019/20 campaign.
  • The failure to score against Jamshedpur was the first time they had not found the net this season which wasn’t helped by the absences of their top scorer Coro through injury and midfielder Hugo Boumous who was suspended.
  • Boumous is still suspended for this match but Coro’s injury is reported to be not too bad and he may be in contention to play which would be a huge positive as he has scored a total of seven goals in his last four matches against Kerala.

THE PREDICTION

Both of these teams are coming into this fixture having suffered similar 1-0 defeats in their previous matches but on the whole Goa will certainly be more satisfied with how their campaign has gone so far. There is no doubt that Goa missed the attacking influence of both Coro and Hugo Boumous for their last game and the fitness of their top scorer Coro ahead of this match is key such is his recent record against Kerala with seven goals in his last four matches against them. He isn’t a certain starter at the time of writing and they may leave it late to make a decision. Goa should still be too strong for Kerala anyway but a win is much more likely with their main striker fit and in the team.
