  • Union Berlin finally ended their winless run to give themselves a huge amount of breathing space in their efforts to avoid the drop and they will be keen to build on their first win in eight Bundesliga matches which came against Koln on Saturday.
  • Goals from Marvin Friedrich and Christian Gentner were enough to seal the points for Union as they held on to claim the win despite conceding in stoppage time as they moved seven points away from the relegation spots.
  • Union are now extremely likely to take their place in next season’s top flight once again following that victory and having switched to a back four in that contest, it is likely they will roll with that once again while Robert Andrich should come straight back into the side after serving a suspension.

  • Paderborn’s relegation to Bundesliga 2 was all but confirmed as they were on the end of a hammering at home to Werder Bremen at the weekend and that result means the best they can hope for it a spot in the relegation play-off game.
  • Paderborn conceded five goals as Werder proved far too good in the one-sided affair with Abdelhamid Sabiri’s effort little consolation in the 1-5 loss which means they must win all of their remaining matches to stand any chance of avoiding the drop.
  • To their task even more difficult in this contest, Paderborn have lost the services of Sabiri and Sven Michel who are both suspended after each collecting their fifth booking of the campaign at the weekend but they do get Uwe Hunemeier back who has served a ban of his own.

Paderborn need a miracle to stave off the drop after they suffered a crushing loss to Werder Bremen at the weekend. They now head to Union Berlin who can officially seal their opponents’ fate whilst also securing their own spot in the Bundesliga with a victory. The hosts won for the first time in eight league games at the weekend and although they are without a win in their last five home games, they should be able to build on their victory by at the weekend by earning another three points which would send Paderborn down.
