THE TEAM NEWS

FREIBURG

  • Freiburg’s lacklustre start to the restarted Bundesliga campaign continued as they failed to win for the fourth consecutive match after they were narrowly defeated by Bayer Leverkusen last Friday.
  • Freiburg struggled throughout and were fortunate not to fall behind on a couple of occasions but their defence was finally breached in the 54th minute with that strike proving to be decisive as the hosts were unable to force their way back into the contest.
  • Despite the defeat, Freiburg appeared to come through the contest unscathed and may use their relatively healthy squad to make some changes to their side with Jonathan Schmid, Kwon Chang-hoon and Luca Waldschmidt among those hoping to earn a start.

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH

  • After two underwhelming performances that resulted in just a solitary point, Borussia Monchengladbach were able to return to winning ways with a ruthless display against Union Berlin last Sunday.
  • Marcus Thuram continued his impressive form in front of goal with a brace while Florian Neuhaus and Alassane Plea also found the back of the net in a 4-1 victory that kept Gladbach inside the top four.
  • Gladbach will now hope to continue their solid run on the road having avoided defeat in their last five away games in the league and they will be boosted by the return of Raffael de Araujo who is back in the mix following an ankle injury.

THE PREDICTION

Freiburg’s strong showing this season is in danger of unravelling after so far failing to claim a victory since the resumption of the Bundesliga and now face another tough task as they host Borussia Monchengladbach. The visitors put in a strong showing against Union Berlin last week after successive displays where they failed to impress and if they can find some consistency to their game, they should be able to make it six games unbeaten on the road in the league by claiming all three points here.
