THE TEAM NEWS

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT

  • Eintracht Frankfurt’s worrying run of form continued as they suffered defeat away at Bayern Munich and although that loss was expected against the Bundesliga leaders, it was another poor defensive effort which will be of great concern.
  • Frankfurt were three goals down when Martin Hinteregger scored two goals in quick succession but Bayern added a further two goals, including Hinteregger putting through his own net which rounded off the 5-2 loss.
  • In their five straight losses in the league, Frankfurt have conceded 18 goals and they may look to tweak things at the back as they attempt to break this current run but they will still be without striker Goncalo Paciencia.

FREIBURG

  • Freiburg have surpassed expectations so far this season but will be disappointed by their failure to pick up any points in their home match against struggling Werder Bremen at the weekend and will be desperate to respond here.
  • They are still very much in the hunt for sixth spot and a place in Europe but they have now won just one of their last six Bundesliga fixtures following the narrow defeat to Bremen despite dominating for large spells.
  • To make matters worse for Freiburg, they thought they had equalised in the 90th minute only for VAR to overturn Manuel Gulde’s effort and their attempt to return to winning ways is likely to be hindered by the unavailability of striker Luca Waldschmidt who looks set to remain on the sidelines with an ankle issue.

THE PREDICTION

Eintracht Frankfurt slipped further into relegation danger after a fifth straight Bundesliga defeat and they must arrest their slide sooner rather than later. They will be hopeful of doing so as they host a Freiburg side that suffered an unexpected loss to Werder Bremen at the weekend. While the visitors have won just one of their last 11 away games in Bundesliga, playing in an empty stadium may aid their cause in improving that record and they should be able to avoid defeat at the very least in this contest.
