THE LOWDOWN

ASTON VILLA

  • The 3-0 defeat to Fulham on Thursday evening was the last straw for the Aston Villa board with Steven Gerrard being relieved of his duties following a sustained slump in form.
  • First team coach Aaron Danks will take temporary charge of the side for this fixture and he will have Douglas Luiz available after the Brazilian's red card was rescinded, while Matty Cash is likely to be re-instated at right-back after he was benched as a precaution on Thursday.

BRENTFORD

  • Thomas Frank has managed to steady the ship after his side’s 5-1 defeat to Newcastle with a 2-0 win over Brighton followed by a hard-fought goalless draw with Chelsea.
  • There are still four players requiring treatment but there are no new injuries to report with Frank likely to go with a similar line-up to midweek.

THE PREDICTION

The Aston Villa board acted swiftly midweek when they dismissed Steven Gerrard within the hour of their 3-0 defeat to Fulham, and interim manager Aaron Danks has hardly had any time to prepare his side for this fixture. Brentford, on the other hand, are a well-oiled machined under Thomas Frank and will be confident of taking the game to a Villa side low on confidence. Defensive errors have cost the midlands outfit all too often this season and Gerrard’s departure is unlikely to bring about a positive change just yet. In-form Bees striker Ivan Toney will be chomping at the bit to expose them, so backing him to find the net at some stage looks tempting in the betting markets.

TIP: IVAN TONEY TO SCORE ANYTIME
