THE TEAM NEWS

The Gunners could line-up with the talented Saliba in defence after he impressed in a recent friendly against MK Dons whilst summer signing Willian could also make an appearance although there is plenty of competition for attacking spots in the Arsenal ranks. Star man Aubameyang often played on the left last season with either Lacazette or Nketiah as the central striker but Mikel Arteta may choose play him centrally in order to hand game-time to the likes of Pepe and Saka.

Liverpool are set to be without skipper Jordan Henderson who is due to resume full training following this match while Alexander-Arnold has been nursing a minor injury and may start on the bench with Neco Williams filling in at right-back. The front three will no doubt have a familiar look to it but promising youngster Rhian Brewster is pushing for inclusion and has given Jurgen Klopp food for thought following some impressive pre-season form.

THE PREDICTION

Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool take on FA Cup winners Arsenal in the traditional curtain-raiser for the new season in what promises to be an entertaining affair. Recent meetings between the two have been full of goals – indeed both teams have scored in nine of their last 10 meetings in all competitions – with last season’s 10-goal thriller in the League Cup particularly memorable. Both sides will want to start the season positively and with the attacking talent on show, both teams can be expected to score in a match featuring over 2.5 goals.
