  • Real Madrid comfortably dispatched Valencia in the semi-final 3-1 as their midfielders stepped and contributed the goals in the absence of Bale, Benzema and Hazard as Modric, Isco and Kroos scored the goals.
  • Zinedine Zidane will have to decide whether he rotates to keep his players fresh or sticks with a winning formula especially in the attacking positions as he has Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior waiting in the wings to come into the side.
  • One other likely rotation could come in defence as Marcelo should come in for Mendy at left-back and it would be no surprise if that proves to be the only change to the starting eleven to face Atletico.

Predicted line-up (4-3-3): Courtois; Carvajal, Sergio Ramos, Varane, Marcelo; Kroos, Valverde, Casemiro; Modric, Jovic, Isco

Unavailable: Bale (Injured), Benzema (Injured), Hazard (Injured), Asensio (Injured)

Doubtful: Lucas Vazquez (Injured)

  • Atletico pulled off a tremendous 3-2 win over Barcelona in their semi-final thanks to Angel Correa’s late winner in a feisty affair to book a place in the Super Cup final where they face city rivals Real.
  • Koke returned from injury as a half-time substitute and he immediately broke the deadlock for Atletico to take the lead but he was forced off later in the half with what may be a recurrence of the injury and he is expected to miss the final.
  • Diego Simeone has plenty of quality options if he decides to rotate as Vitolo, Arias, Gimenez and Llorente but he may be tempted to go unchanged following the excellent win over Barcelona.

Predicted line-up (4-4-1-1): Oblak; Trippier, Felipe, Savic, Renan Lodi; Correa, Thomas, Herrera, Saul; Joao Felix; Morata

Unavailable: Lemar (Injured), Borja Garces (Injured), Diego Costa (Injured)

Doubtful: Koke (Injured), Vrsaljko (Injured)

This promises to be a fascinating Madrid derby and as both semi-finals have shown, all the teams participating are playing with freedom and going for the win. There is little sign of Atletico, who are known to keep things tight when they need to, implementing that strategy in this tournament judging by their performance against Barcelona. Their arch-rivals and neighbours will not hold any major threat for them neither so expect them to lead an open and entertaining game with goals at both ends of the pitch.
