THE TEAM NEWS

GENK

  • Genk occupy the final championship play-off spot and increased their lead over the chasing pack to four points ahead of this round of fixtures with a hard-fought point away from home against Antwerp on Thursday.
  • Nigerian international forward Paul Onuachu gave Genk an early lead against the run of play against Antwerp, they were unable to hold on to their lead until half time with an own goal from Joakim Maehle levelling the match. Antwerp pushed hard for a winner in the second half and in the end, Genk were happy to come away with a point.
  • Midfielders Eboue Kouassi and Mats Moller Daehli were both missing from their last match due to injury. With three goalkeepers on the injury list, Thomas Didillon – a loanee from Anderlecht – is likely to start between the posts for the third game in a row.

STANDARD LIEGE

  • Standard Liege picked up a point from a 0-0 draw at home against league leaders Club Brugge on Wednesday, in a re-arranged match postponed last weekend due to Storm Ciara.
  • In what was a fairly physical encounter with chances at a premium, it was Club Brugge who probably created the better openings but they were unable to break through a stubborn Liege backline.
  • Liege will be forced into a change for this match with striker Obbi Oulare missing through suspension, Felipe Avenatti may be the man who takes his place in the starting XI.

THE PREDICTION

Two teams occupying the top six go head-to-head in this match, with Genk in sixth place and Liege just ahead of them in fifth. There is not a lot to choose between them and this could be very tight indeed. Liege didn’t find the target against league leaders Club Brugge in midweek, but they have hit the net in each of their last ten competitive away games and are capable of doing so again against a Genk team who might be unsettled at the back with all the goalkeeping changes they are having to make this season. The away team might just be able to sneak a narrow victory from this one.
