On the face of it there seems to be no contest between who to choose between Paul Pogba (£8.5m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£9.5m). At £1.0m cheaper than the Belgian, Pogba has him beat in every category compared in last season's stats. More goals, more assists, more bonus points, more 10+ point hauls and more points per app. However, the stats only tell half the story and fail to take into account De Bruyne’s injury plagued 2018-19 campaign. Indeed his £9.5m price tag is more a reflection on what he can do over a 38-game season when fit, as opposed to how he performed last season. In the two seasons prior to 2018-19, De Bruyne registered 14 goals, 39 assists and 408 points at an average of 5.59 points per app.
Verdict: Kevin De Bruyne
