THE TEAM NEWS

SYDNEY SIXERS WOMEN

  • Sydney Sixers suffered their first loss of this year’s Women’s Big Bash League to a team other than Brisbane Heat as they went down to defeat in a final ball thriller against Melbourne Renegades.
  • Marizanne Kapp will be rueing her role in that loss with the Sixers looking like they were heading for a win as they defended 139 but she was hit for six off the last ball of the match which handed the Renegades the win.
  • In another huge blow on the back of that loss, Sixers skipper Ellyse Perry has been ruled out for the rest of the group stage after she suffered a shoulder injury while trying to prevent a boundary against the Renegades.

HOBART HURRICANES WOMEN

  • Hobart Hurricanes have now gone seven matches without a win as they were defeated by Sydney Sixers and will have to deal with an off-the-field storm that is brewing as they prepare to face the Sixers again.
  • Wicketkeeper Emily Smith has been banned for 12 months after posting team news on social media before her side’s game against Sydney Thunder at the start of the month although the 24-year-old will only sit out for three months with nine of those suspended.
  • It will be interesting to see how Smith’s teammates respond in her absence, especially after they were defeated by 39 runs in the last game against the Sixers after being outclassed with both bat and ball.

THE PREDICTION

Sydney Sixers will be under the microscope as they aim to overcome the loss of captain Ellyse Perry. The skipper will be a huge loss for the Sixers and she will have to hope that her side can give her a chance to return in the knockout stages. After their narrow loss last time out, they will be keen to respond straight away and Marizanne Kapp in particular will have a point to prove. Hobart are without a win in seven and are likely to come off second best again with the Sixers set to be too strong even without their star player.
