THE TEAM NEWS

PERTH SCORCHERS WOMEN

  • Perth Scorchers fell to a heavy defeat against Adelaide Strikers in their latest Women’s Big Bash League game and now have just one win from their three matches so far after a poor batting display against the Strikers.
  • The Scorchers were restricted to just 115/9 with only three players reaching double figures and of that total, 67 were scored by Natalie Sciver and Nicole Bolton with very little offered from the rest of the team.
  • Despite getting off to a strong start defending the low total, the Scorchers could not capitalise on reducing the Strikers to 22/3 and failed to take another wicket as Tahlia McGrath scored an unbeaten half-century to take the game away from them.

MELBOURNE RENEGADES WOMEN

  • Melbourne Renegades were unable to make it three wins in a row in the WBBL as they fell just short in their pursuit of the total set by Sydney Thunder and they will have been disappointed with their effort to chase what was an achievable total.
  • Some great death bowling from the Renegades’ Maitlan Brown saw the youngster pick up three wickets in the final over to give her side a real chance but a poor batting performance from the top order did not do her efforts justice.
  • The Renegades crumbled to 25/4 and with their key batters out, a fine 69 to lead the fightback from captain Jess Duffin was ultimately not enough as her side fell an agonising three runs short with Duffin caught with the final ball of the innings as she attempted to win the game.

THE PREDICTION

Perth Scorchers will need to find some consistency with their overall game if they are to challenge in this year’s WBBL and that must start with this game against Melbourne Renegades. They were poor with both bat and ball in their last game and whilst the Renegades also lost, they did put in a better display. The side from Melbourne came out on top when the teams met last week and they can get back to winning ways by claiming a second consecutive win over Perth.
