THE TEAM NEWS

MELBOURNE RENEGADES WOMEN

  • Melbourne Renegades bounced back from their opening defeat to Adelaide Strikers by defeating the same team in their second game and that brought an end to a losing streak of three matches that stretched back into last season.
  • The Strikers posted a respectable total from their 20 overs as they made 152/5 but it did not prove to be enough as the English paring of Danni Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont put on 84 for the second wicket which gave the run chase a solid start before they eventually claimed the win with six balls to spare.
  • That pairing will again be crucial in this game but the pressure will be on opener Sophie Molineux after she failed with the bat again and fell for a golden duck with her teammates doing a great job of recovering from that early blow.

PERTH SCORCHERS WOMEN

  • Perth Scorchers will belatedly get their Women’s Big Bash League campaign underway as they play their opening game of the fifth edition of the tournament and they face a tricky trip to Melbourne to face the Renegades first up.
  • The Scorchers suffered their lowest finish in the WBBL last season where they missed out on the knockout stages for the first time as they could only manage fifth on the ladder and they will be keen to get off to a good start as they attempt to achieve more this time around.
  • With Australia captain Meg Lanning fully-fit after an injury-hit campaign last time because of a back problem, all eyes will be on her to see what she can come up with during this competition.

THE PREDICTION

Perth Scorchers will get their campaign underway with a game against Melbourne Renegades in a game that looks finely poised. Either side could come out on top but the Renegades will be confident after picking up their first win of the tournament by beating Adelaide Strikers last time out. It looks as though their chances this year rest on how the top three perform with the bat but if the likes of Danni Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont can spend long enough at the crease, the Renegades will be difficult to beat.
