THE TEAM NEWS

BRISBANE HEAT WOMEN

  • Brisbane Heat moved a step closer to defending their Women’s Big Bash League title as they earned a spot in the final thanks to an impressive run chase against Melbourne Renegades that saw them run out winners by four wickets.
  • The Heat will have the benefit of home soil after the win over the Renegades but looked to be in some trouble when the Melbourne side whacked 28 off the last two overs of their innings to post 163/4.
  • It left a big total to chase but Maddy Green got her side off to a strong start with 46 from 29 balls and with Jess Jonassen and Grace Harris both chipping in with 38 and 43 respectively, the Heat were able to reach their target with two overs remaining.

ADELAIDE STRIKERS WOMEN

  • Adelaide Strikers produced a strong performance to advance to their first ever WBBL final after they comfortably dispatched Perth Scorchers with Player of the Tournament Sophie Devine doing justice to that title as she played a huge role in the win.
  • Devine and Megan Schutt took two wickets apiece as the Strikers did a great job of restricting the Scorchers to 126/7 which looked a very achievable target on a good batting pitch.
  • Despite captain Suzie Bates falling for just one, fellow opener Devine struck an unbeaten 65 from 46 deliveries to guide her side to the final and she will be key to her side’s chances against the reigning champions.

THE PREDICTION

Brisbane Heat will host Adelaide Strikers in a bid to retain their WBBL title after both teams were impressive winners in their respective semi-final clashes. All eyes will be on Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney to see which superstar can come out on top. Devine and Mooney top the run-scoring chart this season and the former took her tally to within 14 of Ellyse Perry’s record of 777 runs in a single edition of the WBBL with her game-winning knock in the semi. Devine is in great form but Mooney can come to the fore in this final and with more runs down the order, the Heat should have too much for the Strikers in what will be their maiden final.
