THE TEAM NEWS

BRISBANE HEAT WOMEN

  • Brisbane Heat will face a big challenge to turnaround the result after they went down by eight wickets to Adelaide Strikers yesterday although the Heat will have a good idea of what they need to improve on.
  • The Heat’s innings was brought to a premature end in the final over as they were skittled for 139 with Beth Mooney once again the pick with the bat as she scored 73 to take her tally for the competition to 269.
  • Despite it being a decent score to defend, the Heat struggled to take wickets and only managed two which allowed the Scorchers to build a score at a good rate and were able to chase down the total with six balls remaining.

ADELAIDE STRIKERS WOMEN

  • Adelaide Strikers produced a great all-round performance to three wins in a row in the Women’s Big Bash League and they now top the ladder after beating reigning champions Brisbane Heat.
  • The Strikers were able to bowl the Heat out with only Beth Mooney doing any real damage with the bat but it was the way Adelaide mopped up the middle order down that was particularly impressive as they took the final six wickets for just 23 runs.
  • In reply to the 139 posted by the Heat, Suzie Bates and Bridget Patterson were in great touch as they both notched unbeaten half-centuries and put on 96 for the third wicket which guided the Strikers to victory.

THE PREDICTION

Brisbane Heat are still searching for consistency in defence of their title and put in another poor display against Adelaide Strikers yesterday. They were defeated by eight wickets with their reliance on Beth Mooney becoming apparent and even her third half-century of the competition was not enough for her side to come out on top. The Strikers were dominant with both bat and ball and with form on their side, they should be able to repeat yesterday’s performance to make it four wins in a row.
