THE TEAM NEWS

BRISBANE HEAT WOMEN

  • After two hugely disappointing displays, Brisbane Heat showed some great character to respond and get back to winning ways as they produced some brilliant batting when it mattered in their game against Hobart Hurricanes.
  • A superb effort with the ball from Jess Jonassen saw the Australian take 4-20 which helped reduce the Hurricanes to 123/8 but the reigning champions lost four wickets inside the first eight overs to make their task a difficult one.
  • With the required run rate creeping up, a sensational over from Amelia Kerr in which she notched 19 left her side needing 10 from the final two overs and, fittingly, it was Kerr that scored the winning run off the penultimate ball of the innings to hand her side the five-wicket win.

ADELAIDE STRIKERS WOMEN

  • Adelaide Strikers have started the Women’s Big Bash League in great nick and will feel that they have a good chance of making the knockout stages if they can maintain their early form which has seen them pick up three wins.
  • The Strikers made it back-to-back victories as they hammered Perth Scorchers by seven wickets in their last game thanks to a superb effort with both bat and ball but it was Tahlia McGrath that was the star of the show with the bat.
  • Chasing 116 to win, the Strikers chased their target down in the 15th over with McGrath scoring a superb unbeaten 65 from just 46 balls which she did under great pressure after her side had been reduced to 22/3.

THE PREDICTION

This could be a highly entertaining contest between Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers. The Heat will hope they can go on a winning run after they put two disappointing efforts behind them with a victory in their last game but the Strikers have won three from four and were in great form against Perth Scorchers. The Strikers will take some beating if they can replicate that performance and they can continue their impressive start to their WBBL with a fourth win here.
