THE TEAM NEWS

ADELAIDE STRIKERS WOMEN

  • Adelaide Strikers blew the chance to top the ladder at the end of the round robin stage of the Women’s Big Bash as defeat in their final game against Sydney Sixers saw them drop a place to second.
  • Alyssa Healy did the damage for the Sixers with her knock of 84 helping her side to 177/7 and despite a strong reply from opener Sophie Devine who notched 60 off just 38 balls, only three other players managed to reach the 20s as the Strikers fell 13 runs short.
  • That performance from Devine helped the all-rounder claim the award for Player of the Tournament with her managing to top the run-scoring chart with 699 at 77.66 while she has also hit nine sixes more than anyone else in the competition.

PERTH SCORCHERS WOMEN

  • Perth Scorchers responded well to their penultimate defeat against Hobart Hurricanes as they hit back with a much better performance against the same opposition to end their campaign on a high.
  • Having failed miserably with the bat in their first contest, captain Meg Lanning took it upon herself to lead from the front as she produced a wonderful performance to make 101 off just 67 deliveries.
  • Having put on 154 for the opening stand with Nicole Bolton, the Scorchers lost four wickets in the final 13 balls but that proved to be irrelevant as the bowling unit did a great job of protecting their total of 167 to run out comfortable winners by 35 runs.

THE PREDICTION

Adelaide Strikers will hope their final display in the round robin stage does not stick with them as they were defeated by the Sydney Sixers. With qualification already ensured, the Strikers will not worry too much about that performance against a desperate Sixers side but know they need to improve in this semi-final. The Strikers have never gone beyond this point in the competition but with Player of the Tournament Sophie Devine in brilliant form, she can lead her side to their first ever final.
