THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTHERN BRAVE WOMEN

  • Southern Brave topped the women’s Hundred table comprehensively after finishing on 14 points, five points clear of their nearest rivals to earn an automatic place at Lord’s.
  • Of the Brave’s eight league games, seven of those were won with their latest match a comprehensive 30-run triumph over their opponents here in the final.
  • Gaby Lewis was brought in to open the batting in that game due to the departure of overseas star Smriti Mandhana and despite scoring just nine, is expected to be given another chance in what is likely to be an unchanged side.

OVAL INVINCIBLES WOMEN

  • Oval Invincibles secured their place in the final courtesy of a 20-run win against Birmingham Phoenix in the eliminator match played at the Kia Oval after finishing second-place in the league.
  • They only managed a score of 114/7, but a terrific bowling performance saw them skittle the Phoenix out for just 94 with South East Stars bowler Tash Farrant taking four wickets.
  • Like the Southern Brave, Oval Invincibles will be expected to name an unchanged side, although there is a doubt over the fitness of Essex spin-bowling all-rounder Mady Villiers, who did not bowl or field in the second innings after making just 4 with the bat.

THE PREDICTION

These two sides collide for the second time with Southern Brave not only looking to make it two wins from two against Oval Invincibles, but also securing what would be a well-deserved trophy having been by far the best women’s side over the course of the competition. Having combined big-hitting batting with a complete bowling unit that includes both top quality pace and spin, it will take a huge effort to stop them here. Ultimately, Anya Shrubsole’s side have all bases covered, not to mention lots of big-match experience within their team and provided the forecasted rain doesn’t cause too heavy a disruption, Southern Brave should prove too strong for Oval Invincibles, therefore going on to win the augural women’s Hundred.
