THE TEAM NEWS

OVAL INVINCIBLES MEN

  • Oval Invincibles kept themselves firmly in the frame for a place in the top three at the weekend, beating Trent Rockets in a match reduced to 65 balls aside due to a wet outfield.
  • England limited overs star Jason Roy was at his most destructive, smashing 56 not out from just 29 balls and an in-form Roy spells danger for the rest of the competition.
  • Sam Billings’ side will be without fast bowler Saqib Mahmood not just for this game, but likely for the remainder of the competition after he was called up to the England test following injury scares to both Stuart Broad and James Anderson.

LONDON SPIRIT MEN

  • London Spirit caused a surprise at Emirates Old Trafford on Tuesday night, winning their first match of the men’s Hundred in a thrilling contest vs Manchester Originals.
  • The bowling attack of the Spirit came up clutch late on as Brad Wheal stood out in particular, picking up wickets with the 97th, 99th and 100th ball of the game respectively, finishing with four wickets overall.
  • Both top order batter Joe Denly and overseas fast bowler Mohammad Amir did not feature and it would be no surprise if captain Eoin Morgan opted for the same side here.

THE PREDICTION

Oval Invincibles have been outstanding at home so far this summer, winning all three of their men’s Hundred matches at the Kia Oval and will be expected to make it a clean sweep vs their neighbours. Whilst London Spirit do enter this encounter with new found belief and confidence following their victory in the North West, Oval Invincibles boasts the far superior batting line-up and a number of international bowlers who know how to take wickets at crucial stages and keep a lid on the opposition scoring rate. Despite the loss of fast bowler Saqib to England duty, the strength-in-depth of the hosts should still see them emerge victorious here.
