THE TEAM NEWS

NORTHERN SUPERCHARGERS MEN

  • Northern Superchargers finally got themselves their first point of the competition after their last match vs Manchester Originals was abandoned without a ball bowled due to rain.
  • Superchargers skipper Ben Stokes has left for England test duty, passing the captaincy to fellow all-rounder David Willey, who leads Yorkshire Vikings in the T20 Blast.
  • Due to concussion symptoms, South African top order batter Faf du Plessis may not be ready to feature for the home side just yet, with Lancashire’s Dane Vilas potentially set to play having been drafted into the squad by head coach Darren Lehmann.

OVAL INVINCIBLES MEN

  • Oval Invincibles remain unbeaten in the Hundred after suffering a second straight washout, this time away at Manchester Originals which sees them on four points after three games.
  • Left-arm bowler Sam Curran has been joined up with the England test squad and therefore won’t feature here, whilst fellow fast bowler Saqib Mahmood is a huge doubt following the injury he sustained in the opening match of the men’s Hundred.
  • South African leg-spin bowler Tabraiz Shamsi is expected to make his Oval Invincibles debut and will plug the hole left by Sandeep Lamichhane, who was unable to fulfil his contract due to visa difficulties.

THE PREDICTION

Northern Superchargers have really disappointed so far in the Hundred, but with home advantage in their favour will be hoping for an improvement here. Emerald Headingley has proven a good pitch for batting so far and this would give the likes of opener Chris Lynn the best chance of hitting one of his trademark explosive limited overs knocks. However, with the likes of Stokes absent and Du Plessis potentially misssing, once again it feels like Brook will prove crucial if the Superchargers are to have any chance here. Against a strong bowling attack boosted by the inclusion of leg-spinner Shamsi however, it doesn’t bode well for the home side and when combined with the likes of Jason Roy and captain Sam Billings with the bat, a second Oval Invincibles victory in the men’s Hundred looks on the cards.
