THE TEAM NEWS

NORTHERN SUPERCHARGERS MEN

  • Trent Rockets’ victory this past weekend vs Manchester Originals has eliminated Northern Superchargers from the men’s Hundred as they are now incapable of finishing inside the top three.
  • The Superchargers gave themselves hope last Thursday after they themselves thumped Manchester Originals by 69 runs, racking up the first 200 score of the competition in the process thanks largely to an explosive 71 from just 28 ballss by wicketkeeper batter John Simpson.
  • Both star batter Harry Brook and opener Adam Lyth have returned positive Covid-19 tests and neither will feature here, therefore another Yorkshire player in Tom Kohler-Cadmore is expected to get another chance to open the batting here.

BIRMINGHAM PHOENIX MEN

  • Birmingham Pheonix have already sealed their place in the top three and know that victory here at Emerald Headingley will be enough to see them finish as league leaders, therefore booking themselves an automatic place in Saturday’s final.
  • The Phoenix have now won their last four games including most recently away at Trent Rockets, defending a score of 166/6 to win by 16 runs.
  • Captain Moeen Ali has been on test duty for England and isn’t expected to return for this match, therefore all-rounder Liam Livingstone will deputise once again as skipper, whilst Birmingham will hope to have fast bowler Adam Milne back after he missed their last fixture.

THE PREDICTION

Of the two teams locking horns here, only Birmingham Phoenix have something to play for as they look to seal top spot in the table, whilst Northern Superchargers are playing for pride only. The loss of Lyth and Brook is a blow for the hosts, however that didn’t stop them from smashing Manchester Originals to all parts of Emerald Headingley last time out. Birmingham Phoenix though, represent significantly tougher competition and their hard-hitting top order should realise what is usually an extremely good pitch in Leeds. When taking into account the form of the visitors, they have to be backed to secure a fifth successive victory, thus booking their place in the men’s Hundred final.
