THE TEAM NEWS

MANCHESTER ORIGINALS MEN

  • Manchester Originals could never get to grips with Oval Invincibles in their first match of the tournament, losing regular wickets in their attempt to score 146 and ultimately falling nine runs short.
  • England star Jos Buttler failed with the bat and will be hoping for much better on his home ground, whilst not being to call upon fast bowler Lockie Ferguson due to injury saw the Originals severely weakened and they will be desperate for him to recover in time to play in this match
  • All-rounders Dan Douthwaite and Colin Ackermann wait in the wings should their services be required, but following promising performances last time out, both Lancashire’s Tom Hartley and Notts’ Calvin Harrison are likely to keep their places.

BIRMINGHAM PHOENIX MEN

  • Moeen Ali’s Birmingham Phoenix got off to a winning start infront of an adoring Edgbaston crowd this past Friday, with the skipper top scoring 40 to help his side to their victory target of 145.
  • The hero of the hour however, was Chris Benjamin who was only signed to a professional contract by Warwickshire a few weeks, Benjamin hitting 24 not out from 15 deliveries to help his team over the line.
  • Benjamin will now stick with the team for the duration of the tournament due Warwickshire teammate Adam Hose being sidelined through injury and will likely feature in an unchanged side at Emirates Old Trafford.

THE PREDICTION

This tournament is still very much in its infancy, however Birmingham Phoenix are already standing out as a very strong side after just one match under the leadership of Moeen. Whilst they lack star names, they have cultivated a very strong team with all bases seemingly covered, not to mention a mouth-watering top order. Lancashire Lightning stars Finn Allen and Liam Livingstone will both be playing on a ground they know very well and against a Manchester Originals bowling unit potentially without the services of New Zealand international Ferguson once again, we may be set for fireworks from the visitors. It is important to wait for confirmation of the teams, but should Ferguson be absent, it’s very difficult not to see Birmingham Phoenix making it two wins from two Hundred games.
